About

Greetings! – I’m James Morrison, a family man, busy professional, and always looking for areas of improvement in life.

I am currently working as a business development professional with one of our nation’s top contractors. This is my personal blog. It is focused on “Life Building.” My philosophy is if you are to live well, you need the right set of plans and tools. I have made several mistakes along the way . I have also had success with planning and building a good life from hard life lessons.

The content is for anyone looking for hope, motivation and guidance to improve their life.  I provide direction on how to make improvements to three foundational areas including:

(1) Family , (2) Fitness and (3) Finance

The key benefit is readers will have actionable insight to build their life. There are other areas of life that are also important, but if you get these three right, you will be living right and the rest will come a little easier. On occasion I may also write about construction, business development and resources I am discovering.

My goal is to provide direction that is supportive, provides confidence towards your personal and professional life goals. My hope is the content will build you up to achieve success. If you are in a position of wanting more from life or a better life – then this blog is for you. I will typically post three times a week.

My Biography

I have worked in the built environment my entire career. I began working during the summers for a retail focused architecture firm, while attending Graduate School at Washington University in St. Louis. I worked with this firm after graduating with my Masters of Architecture for a few years. In addition to working as an architecture project coordinator at this time, I was also an adjunct professor with a local technical college and worked with an Autodesk reseller as a post sales software training consultant.

In 2012, I decided to pursue a career in commercial real estate with CBRE’s project management group. During this time, I worked with interesting clients and unique projects. While at CBRE I managed over 12 projects at a time on average and mentored new employees along the way.  I completed over 40 projects from ground breaking or demo to Certificate of Occupancy, totaling 2.5 million square feet of commercial construction worth over $375M in value.

Next, I was offered a great opportunity to move from commercial real estate to construction operations in 2016, with RG Anderson Company to manage a $42M luxury condo project in downtown Nashville.  I started off as a project manager and was quickly promoted to Director of Business Development after securing a $40M apartment project in GermantownDuring my time at RG Anderson I helped secure over $160M dollars worth of construction projects, including over 600 residential units. I managed all aspects of construction from business development, meeting with clients, working with design teams, establishing project budgets, contract pricing and on-site field operations management.

In 2019, Barton Malow Builders decided to setup an office in Nashville and I was presented with an exciting opportunity to help the Nashville office grow their presence in our region. I have enjoyed working as a business development professional focusing on healthcare, higher education, industrial and sports related clients. Our client list includes HCA, Vanderbilt University, General Motors and NASCAR.

I am married to my lovely wife, Lindsay, and we have two beautiful daughters together. We live outside of Nashville, TN. In my free time, I enjoy writing, reading, working out, running, spending time with family and friends.
