Have you ever wanted to try something new, but did not know where to start or how to succeed? At work this week, one of our peers said he would like to start a hobby like brewing beer or smoking meat. Another guy chimed in and said he would like to start a side business. Both guys said they had an idea on how to start, but did not think they had the time due to family and professional commitments.
I will admit, I have always wanted to find a great hobby or start a side business as well. I also have similar concerns with family and professional time commitments. Over the years, I have learned one lesson. If you are passionate about your family, fitness, finances or hobbies you need to START working on your goals. Take it one day at a time and make the next best move or decision. There are no results or rewards without action.
Here are five tips on starting, enjoying and succeeding at your new endeavors.
- Start. Take the risk or suffer the regret. Starting is usually the biggest challenge for most. It will also be very rewarding.
- Seek Advice of Others. Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22. There is rarely any success without the counsel of others. Talk to people who have accomplished what you are trying to accomplish.
- The Persistent Wins. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. Don’t give up on your goals. Stay the course, be persistent and disciplined to accomplish your goals.
- Enjoy The Journey. Celebrate your milestone victories along the way. Work hard and play hard. Enjoy your successes along the way. It will help you push through the tough times.
- You Reap, What You Sow. Future consequences are inevitably shaped by present actions. Today’s actions will impact tomorrow’s results. Work on something today that your future self will be proud of later.
I challenge you to start a new hobby or endeavor today. Choose something that you already love or inspires you. Investing time into this new hobby or endeavor will be more rewarding than one would originally think. What if this challenge created a new way for you to spend time with your family or friends, improved your health, added a new level of enjoyment to your life or provided financial freedom?
Why delay starting another minute?
